Happy Halloween!!

FINALLY! I get to take Tallon trick or treating this year! At this time last year, I was sooo bummed that Tallon wasn't born yet, I thought for sure that he would have popped out by then. But alas, he waiting TWO MORE WEEKS!

Our Halloween weekend was fun, Jeff and I went to a friend's house/Halloween party on Saturday night. Jeff and I totally felt like the oldsters there, it seemed like every person there was either just out of high school or at least didn't have a sleeping baby at home like we did :) Side note, I'm pretty sure since having Tallon, my alcohol tolerance has changed. Usually, just one shot will get me tipsy, but on Saturday I had a shot and a beer and felt nothing! I know, I'm such a lightweight, but it truly is not fun at all. I'm usually the first one to throw up and can never keep up with everyone else. Let's see how our upcoming weekend in VEGAS turns out. I'm supah excited for that.

So here is a photo from us on Saturday and below are some pictures I saw online of Halloween costumes from the past. Soooooo freaking creepy!

Let the creepiness begin...

Happy Friday! Does anyone have plans for this weekend? Me? Nada. Which I'm happy about because we have a very busy November ahead of us. Here are some links that brought smiles to my face.
How awesome is this aisle?!
Want, want, want this fridge!

I would take ANY of these wallpapers!

Is anyone watching Downton Abbey? I'm curious if I should become as obsessed with it as everyone says I should be.

better late then never

I'm a sucker for second hand furniture. Blame it on my mother. When I was young, our entire home was furnished by finds from estate sales, yard sales and raids from her customer's homes (my mother was/still is a beloved hairstylist to the senior community where she lives). I so so regret not taking photos of the home we lived in from the time I was 9 to 18 when we moved out. Knick knacks, doo dads, tokens and dooblaferries were splattered on the walls, table tops and anything that would hold still. On top of those, were a sea of potted plants that my mom had strung their vines across shelves and lovingly watered often. It wasn't expensive, but it was unique and personal.

The neighborhood Jeff, Tallon and I live in is known for the weekend yard sales and thrift stores. It's impossible to not drive down a street in Lakeland Village and not drive slowly by the merchandise displayed on the ground and tables. I recently picked up a dresser, a heavy one at that, for $5! We needed a dresser so desperately in our bedroom since our plastic drawers from Walmart looked like they were literally melting from the weight of their contents and age.

Some primer, paint, a few breaks and voila! Still need to buy new drawer knobs, the ones I purchased at Hobby Lobby just aren't matching the paint color. PS, anyone been to a Hobby Lobby? OMG, Michael's craft store on crack. CHEAP CRACK. Seriously, so addicting.

Weekend recap

Happy Monday to you all!

This last weekend was very action packed-Tallon and I lounging and visiting Grandma Connie's house. I guess that wouldn't be considered so much as action packed huh? Besides battling/nursing a rash on Tallon's bum, and Jeff working this Sunday, which he usually doesn't, I loved our quiet weekend. The pictures below pretty much sum up what we did.

Blogs I L-O-V-E

I spend a good portion of my day reading my favorite blogs. (Pathetic? Not at all) My list is constantly growing, but there are a few that I look forward to reading every day. One of them is Momastery. Glennon is a true artist with her writing and what is recently going on in her life and her optimism is truly inspiring. Her Monkees (you'll know what I'm talking about if you read, which you should!) have built an unwavering support system that other women and bloggers would kill for. But no need to kill, just follow along and get inspired to live each day thankful for what you have, because in the end, it's all we've got...and it's enough :)

Debate? More like a fist fight!

Did anyone watch the reunion of the Real Housewives of Altanta err I mean the Presidential Debate last night? I totally got the two confused.

Lies? check. Accusations? It's there. Talking over one another? A butt load.

At one point, I was waiting for a fist to be thrown. My anxiety was high and my stomach was queasy. Maybe it was the new receipe I tried out last night, but that's a different post...

The Walking f**cking Dead

Like I've said a million times before, I LOVE TV. GOOD TV. And what is good tv? The Walking Dead of course!

Back story on me and The Walking Dead: My husband is a huge zombie, monster, anything that's scary movie fan so since TWD premiered, he's been hooked. I, on the other hand, took a little longer to warm up to the idea of zombies for regular tv time. But once I was forced to sit and actually watch an episode last year, I was hooked. Unfortunately, when I was pregnant I just couldn't watch it, freaked me out just a little too much. But now that it's a new season and Tallon is tucked away sleeping when we watch it, I'm hooked again.

Did anyone see Sunday's episode? All I can say is I was CRYING. Literally crying because my favorite old man Hershel was attacked by walkers and of course the episode ends right after Rick chops his infected leg right off with an ax. I'm telling you, watch it!

I'm so hoping that I connect with other TV and TWD fans so we can talk!

Ugh, look at that face. The bravery. The kind eyes. Swooooon.

weekend recap

Happy Monday!

Not a lot went on this past weekend at the Barnard homestead. Tons of kisses and sleeping is pretty much all I can ask for and that's what I got. Here is some proof of weekend past.

Oh wait, we did work on Tallon's birthday invitations! whew, we DID do something, makes me feel better.

As you know, I watch a lot of television. Less now that we have Tallon, which means that the shows I do watch must be meaningful or at least funny...okay, but I'll still make room for Project Runway and a few MTV shows.

A few weeks ago, I was watching katie Couric's new daytime show. Side note, Katie is a terrible host, but she has landed some pretty good guest spots.  Her guest that day was Brene Brown, a doctor who has been studying happiness, vulnerability and pretty much all human emotions. Let me just say, this woman exposed my soul. Every word coming out of her mouth was a confirmation of what I had been feeling for pretty much my entire life. Guilt for being content, anxiety for the future and being scared of allowing happiness in fear of impending sorrow. Pretty much ruining your happiness by preparing for an unknown, possibly terrible, but possible awesome future. Crazy. I had a ton of favorite quotes during her segment, but I have compiled a few of my favorite.

“The dark does not destroy the light; it defines it. It's our fear of the dark that casts our joy into the shadows.”

“Shame works like the zoom lens on a camera. When we are feeling shame, the camera is zoomed in tight and all we see is our flawed selves, alone and struggling."

“We cannot selectively numb emotions, when we numb the painful emotions, we also numb the positive emotions.”

“Worthiness doesn't have prerequisites.”

Come on, good stuff right?

Thinking About – Whether to transition Tallon from formula to cow’s milk or almond milk. I’m so scared of all the hormones and who knows what else that is in cow’s milk, but his pediatrician is urging that he goes to cow’s milk …help!

Eating – dried banana chips! I love them so so much and fancy myself a banana chip connoisseur. I am very specific on the brand I eat.

Watching – Project Runway! After 10 seasons, I still can’t get enough. Don’t tell my husband, but I’m secretly excited for The Walking Dead to come back on. When Tallon was born, I had to stop watching for a bit because it was just too dark for a stay at home mom with nothing to do but think all day…about zombies!

Anticipating – Tallon’s 1st birthday party! It’s November 11th and even though that seems far away, I’m learning slowly but surely that life moves fast, so I need to get in party mode and start buying and preparing.

Reading – I’m lame and am currently not reading a book consistently. Let’s count the Food Network Magazine I read yesterday as what I’m currently reading.

Listening to – Listening to Tom Petty’s American Girl. Reminds me of Silence of the Lambs and Fast Times at Ridgemont High all at the same time.

Loving – My amazing friends and family. Seriously, without Jeff and our baby boy, I don’t know what I’d do…actually, I’d probably be lounging at a beach resort sipping a margarita.

Weekend Recap

Happy Monday!

I just love Mondays (no, seriously, I'm not being sarcastic). For the last 5 years, Jeff's only day off was Monday, so this would be the only day we had together, hence my love for 'em.

This weekend was pretty relaxing. Hubby and I even got to go on a date Sunday, so so nice.

Tallon even had an eventful weekend. While Jeff and I were on our date, Tallon got to spend some time with his G-parents! They went to an apple orchard where they all had a blast. Even though it was nice getting some alone time with the Mr. we secretly missed him all day. But don't tell Tallon, he'll get a big head.

with Auntie Kristal!

Picking apples!

Something about me...

Sometimes I forget how old I am until I tell an older person my age and see their response. I’m 24, with the soul of an 85 year old. Years of growing up in a hair salon that caters to senior citizen women has done its damage. I’ve always resented people’s response to my telling them I’m a Gemini because I always received the standard response: oooohhh you must have two personalities then, you schizophrenic bipolar woman, you! Maybe I went a little over bored, but this is how I took it. But as time passed, I realized, I really must have two personalities (maybe multiple, who knows).
The first personality, who I’d like to name Mandy (my childhood nickname) is compatible with children, people my age and maybe even the immature 40 year old. My silly side, where I have no shame in humiliating myself for a good laugh is usually appreciated by the children at heart.
And my second personality, whose name is June, in memory of a favorite deceased client of my mother’s, can have a mature conversation with anyone 40 years and above. Weather? I got you. Those darn young whipper snappers who just don’t have any manners? Damn them to hell. Jeopardy? Set to record every night at my house.
You get the point. And the more I think about it, what an awesome skill to have. No?

Tunes Tuesday-Oldies Edition

Oldies. More specifically today, Motownesque oldies. Grew up on it. Whenever I catch a listen, I’m taken back to my childhood apartment watching my mom working away in her tiny, green tile patterned linoleum kitchen, cooking up a batch of chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and sipping her Andre champagne. Classy. But seriously, I’m so thankful that I was exposed to different genres as a child.

As I put this list together (it was hard only picking five), I realized that these songs not only reminded me of my mom, but they also reminded me of all the great movies that these songs have contributed to.

1.       Do you love me the Contours featured in Dirty Dancing

2.       Right back to where we started from by Maxine Nightingale featured in The Family Stone

3.       Chapel of love by the Dixie Cups featured on Father of the Bride

4.       My boyfriend’s back by The Angels featured on My Boyfriend’s Back

5.       Wishin’ & Hopin’ by Dusty Springfield featured on My Best Friend’s Wedding (considered Motown? oh well)
